The last few months have been a major step forward in my life. I saw the birth of my first child (Misha Ericovna), and my dream of having a successful website started taking off. I have spent the last 2 years working on Jerico Systems and boy has it seen some changes. The last few months however it has went from seeing 5-20 unique visitors a day to almost a 1000. So the last few months I have tried to act more the professional now that I am a father and trying to run a professional company. I been dressing a lot nicer even though I stay at the comp all day so not sure that’s doing any good. I even was trying to stop cursing so damn much…oops. However all my attempts and success at stopping to curse was shattered this morning. Many of you already know my theme here on Jerico is just a modified version of the WP-Newsmag theme over at www.wp-magazine.se . I was ask by the author if I could get a stylesheet to him so you could offer it to his visitors that wanted a darker look to his theme. I change a lot of things on my theme not just the style. I also change pretty much all the structure of each page. So to make a stylesheet with my colors I needed to start all over, and so I went for it. I downloaded a fresh copy of the theme and installed it on my test site which I remind you is at a different location on a different domain name (vasthtml.com). I went to my test install of Wordpress and activated the theme and them opened a new tab in IE-7 and went to Jerico to get a good look at what I had done. That’s when I noticed that my theme here on Jerico was totally messed up. What? How can this be? The test site is a whole different domain I don’t get this. I played and played with this thing to try to find out what was going on. I soon relized that I was only getting this trouble in IE-7 and not any other browser. This theme wasn’t made for IE-8 and for once it looked great in it. Since the theme has a separate stylesheet for IE I narrowed this down to be the cause. Though I still could not figure out how a stylesheet on another domain was changing a style on another site. I did get it working but what I had to do was take my stylesheet from Jerico and make a copy and upload it to my test site so it can use it from there. I tried to just un install the theme from the test server and that really left Jerico in a mess. So I re installed it back on the test server, talk about a WTF moment.
I went to my header.php file on Jerico and found that my IE style sheet was pointing at the test site. I guess I had set it there when making it. But how on earth has this been working without the stylesheet on the test site until I installed it there today? Also how did this change IE-8 so much? Without the style for IE-7, IE-8 was perfect.
