Nvidia 9 Series Review
Now that the mighty Nvidia 9 series is on sale people are already jumping the gun about the 8 series being out of date, but is it?
The answer is very simple, NO. Even though the 9 series is based on the newer GPU it doesn’t mean its faster or better by any chance. The 9 series has filled the void that was between the 88GTX and the 8600, 8500, and the 8400’s, which is a gap most people didn’t know needed filling. Although the 9 series is faster than most of the 8000’s its still very much slower than the 8800’s. Even the massive 9600GT with 1 gig of ddr3 memory offered by M.S.I is no match still for the 8800’s. The key to most video cards now days is to look for the “stream processors” and the 8800GTX has a massive 128. Though the 8800GS is lowered to 96 this is still more than any current 9 series which is 64.

So now that the tech talk is out of the way lets look at money. The 8800GTX is still setting people back about $400 while the 8800GS will set you back around $150. Now that is a massive price cut considering the performance is still well within 8800GTX territory. A 9600Gt is about $160 for a 512 gig version and around $250 for a massive 1 gig. So this leaves us with the question, which one do you buy. Well all things taking into play i would rank the 8800GS as the better buy. Even though its memory is less at 384mb its still just seems faster than any 9 series. And the 8800GTX is still well out of the price range of most people though if money is no problem then by all means go for the 8800 GTX, but if your money doesn’t grow on the trees in your back yard i would settle for the 8800GS which is cheaper than most of the 9’s and yet still gives the performance of a true 8800.
